The Code of the Samurai as paraphrased from The Last Samurai is as follows:

Gi - Honesty & Justice
Be honest in your dealing with everyone.  There is right and wrong, no shades of gray. Be utterly honest with yourself first. Belive in justice.

Rei - Polite Courtesy
Do not be cruel. There is no need to prove your strength.  Be courteous even to your enemies.  This outward display of respect distinguishes us from animals. Your strength should be apparent in your dealings with others not just on the battlefield.  True strength is evident in difficult times.

Yu - Heroic Courage
Act when it is necessary.  Take the risk to act even when others do not or will not; even when it is dangerous to do so.  Act completely, fully, with courage and intelligence.  Live life wonderfully.

Meiyo - Honor
There is only one judge of honor, that is yourself. Your decisions and how you carry out the implications of your decisions reveal who you truly are.  It is impossible to hide from yourself.

Jin - Compassion
By means of intense training you become quick and strong.  Develop power that is rare in others.  Use that power for good. Have compassion and therefore help others at every turn.  Make opportunities to do good works.

Makoto - Complete Sincerity
If you say you will do something there is no need to promise to do it. The saying of something is the same as doing it.  Nothing should stop you from completing your chosen action; the speaking and the doing are the same.

Chu - Duty & Loyalty

For a samurai " Having said some thing or done some thing he knows he (she) owns that thing." He is responsible for that "thing" and all the consequences that follow.  Unswerving loyalty to those in his care is the hallmark of the samurai.

"...one must polish one's ki and forge the spirit within the realm of life and death. Practice these methods intently with your entire mind and body, temper yourself ceaselessly, and advance on and on; weld youself to heaven and earth and unify practice and enlightenment. Realize that your mind and body must be permeated with the soul of a warrior, enlightened wisdom, and deep calm."

    Morihei Uyeshiba

"The principles of Aikido, most modern of Japan's martial arts, were discovered by Morihei Uyeshiba. Its outstanding feature is that it made a great leap from the traditional physical arts to an absolute art, from the aggressive, fighting martial arts to a spiritual martial art that seeks to abolish conflict. When anyone speaks of 'myself,' he nearly always means 'my physical self or existence.'  He knows that his body has weight and shape. Through his five senses of sight, smell, taste, hearing and touch, he is always concious of his physical self. By contrast, his mind has neither color nor form. We wash our faces each morning, but how many of us wash our minds as well? Precious few! There are many people who train their bodies but few who train their minds. Apparently few realize that the mind lik the body becomes soiled if it is not washed, weak if it is not trained."
